The Basic Structure And Systems Of The Universe - 1298 Words

Everything about the fundamental structure and systems of the universe occurred in such a way that allows life to exist. In other terms, and how this argument received its name, everything from physical constants in physics to the balance of energy has been fine-tuned to permit life. The fine- tuning argument suggests that this level of improbability and complexity could not have possibly been achieved without intelligent design, which therefore supports the existence of God. This is where I challenge Robin Collins’ argument. I contend that the fine-tuning argument does provide evidence of an intelligent ‘being’, but would not go as far as to say that the argument provides evidence of God himself. According to the dictionary, God is defined as â€Å"the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority.† The fine-tuning argument only corroborates a portion of the definition of what God is. The fine-tuning argument supplies reasoning as to there being a creator, a designer, that is intelligent and able to fabricate a life-sustaining universe, but does not even begin to attempt to prove that there is a being, the same being that is the creator, that rules the universe and also provides all moral authority. Robin Collins states that the fine-tuning argument is one of the most powerful arguments in favor of the existence of God(4). All Is Not Well In the Land of The Lion King Essay All is Well in Land of The Lion KingIn the article, Alls Not Well in Land of The Lion King, by Margaret Lazarus, the author over exaggerates an animated classic, investigating as to whether or not the movie is politically correct and morally right. The essay examines and stereotypes the movie, and comes to various misguided conclusions. Lazarus defines the hyenas and the lion, Scar symbolic, and declares that Disney already has gays and blacks ruining the natural order. She also draws to the conclusion that Disney manipulates small childrens minds; encouraging them to believe that Only those born into privilege can bring about change (pg. 440) Lazarus is constantly searching for the underlying meaning throughout the movie, and fails to enjoy it. After a complete analysis of the movie she fails to understand the central idea of the movie. She then proceeds to mock the concept of a young heir to the crown to fighting and standing up for what is rightfully and morally his. She maintains that the movie The Lion King is a metaphor for our society, suggesting that the nation only supports the concept that only the strong do survive in the world. So often a carefree animated tale is scrutinized and psychoanalyzed, and the pureness and innocence are stripped away from it. I fully disagree with Lazarus. The Lion King, was a wonderful, original animation that, broke the Disney stereotyped classics, of a hero that saves a beautiful girl in distress. The Lion King, features a story of doing the right thing, learning to fight for what is right, to stand up for yourself and what you believe in. The Lion King, is an animation, to over analyze in such a fashion as Margaret Lazarus does, is ridiculous and a shame. Lazarus is seeking too much meaning out of this simple tale. The cartoons main purpose is to entertain, not to set all the things wrong in the world right. It is impossible and absurd to suggest that young childrens minds are being corrupted by Disney movies. The Lion King is a cartoon. Children cannot understand the underlying meanings of gays and blacks, they just want to laugh and enjoy themselves.Bibliography:

I would encourage an environment of friendship and helping out one another. I feel it is important for students to have a brief introduction to everyone so that there are no â€Å"stranger† feelings, even though they may not know some students very well at all at the beginning of the year.I will stress to them that for the next year we will be working with one another and helping each other to accomplish our goals and to make the progress we need to. I would address to the students, in a way that they could comprehend, depending on the grade level, the differences of socioeconomic status and its implications on students and their schoolwork. I would make sure to address this topic in a comfortable way and allow the students to discuss their ideas on the topic and voice their opinions and thoughts. I would also discuss sexual harassment, as it is a problem that can occur anywhere, regardless of the geographical area.I feel it would also be important to discuss with my students ways to identify signs of abuse, drug use, or suicidal tendencies. I would want to make these discussions comfortable for the students and to reassure them that we can talk about any of these subjects in a responsible, respectful way. I would also allow them to talk to me privately if they had any concerns that they ever needed to share. I would make sure that I give them the feelings of privacy and trust so that they could feel comfortable coming to me if they had a problem and needed the help of an adult. I plan to have a bulletin board in my classroom that I would decorate every month, the way my teachers used to do. I would make sure that I include other languages and pictures that students from other ethnical backgrounds can recognize. I would, for instance, during the month of December, include the traditional Christmas tree and snowman for Americans who celebrate Christmas. I would also find out from my students any ways that they celebrate their holidays, or if they celebrate something similar to Christmas, I would incorporate that into the same bulletin board.If I had Jewish students, I may include â€Å"Happy Hanukah† on the bulletin board and other pictures or sayings that they are more familiar with. I would then discuss with the students what all these different things are and what they mean to each individual culture. This would be a nice class project where I could have the students from other ethnic backgrounds explain to the class how they celebrate their holiday s and what traditions they do differently. If we were to have a holiday class party, I would make sure that we included games and displayed ornaments that were a custom to other cultures as well.I believe that if a teacher creates a classroom and embraces all different cultures and traditions without holding one paramount to the other, this is the best example for students to see of how to accept other people and their beliefs, even if they are different from what we are used to. Classrooms already are diverse and will only continue to become more so in the next few years. I believe as teachers it is our responsibility to make sure that we are including everyone and not leaving any student out in the dark because we are not familiar with how to talk to them or deal with them.As teachers, it will be our responsibility to learn parts of their language if we have to, in order to communicate with them. As teachers, we will need to contact their parents and make sure that they are aware with how their children are doing in our cl assrooms and if their students need extra help in order to progress. As teachers, it is our responsibility to be a great example for our students that we treat all people the same way when it comes to race and religion. We will not discriminate against our students, and we will not allow it to go on inside of our classrooms, either.

This is the essence of our Declaration of Independance and the philosophy behind the Constition. We, through history, have made certain that ALL people in this country have equality before the law. We have set uup the premise that all people are equal before the law. Lady Justice is blind to Race, Religion, _________ . We have declared that there is no such thing as sub-humans -- and that NO human being's rights are superior to another human being. If we want to live by the premises that we set up in this country, then we cannot overlook ANY human being -- NO ONE can be excluded. There are, however, a human beings that is ignored the protection to thier rights to life everyday. The aborted children. I dare the negative to PROVE that a child in her mother's wound is alive! Does the negative actually believe that a human being is alive when and only when a human being has fully developed? If this is true, then most of here are not alive. The human specie is only fully grown at adulthood, many of us here are not adults yet -- and by that definition, it wouldn't matter if your shot and killed on the street because "your not fully developed". We are a stage in development -- teenager -- just like a child is, just like a toddler is, just like an old man is, and just like a aborted child is. There is no magical transformation that occurs when a child is born. He has the same basic needs to survive before he is born, and the same needs after he is born. The negative is going to attempt to make you believe that the differnce in quality of a unborn child is so great that these children do not resemble what we call alive. They want you to believe that a unborn child cannot feel pain. Can an unborn child feel pain? If it can, then does that not resemble life? If they do successfully make you accept this premise, then it becomes easy to abort a child. If you accept that an unborn child is not a eating, breathing, moving, human inside of a woman then thier life can have no value. But the answer is yes, a unborn child does feel pain. Now, I know it is hard for many of us to accept that we have been doing things wrong on such a basic level in this country, I know it's hard for many people to look back on beliefs that they have thought many times, but we must realize that unborn childeren ARE alive! Our country went through and the world went through a long persiod of time where Whites believed that Blacks were actually sub-human! If someone accepted that a Black person was a sub- human, then it became easy to continue slavery, and it became easy to abuse or ignore thier rights to life. We have disproved this premise in modern time, not ignoring the facts. In Hitler's Holocost, German soliders forced themselves to truly believe that the Jews were lower beings. We cannot ignore the facts, we cannot imitate these Nazi's and operate on the premise that there are lower human beings. We cannot hide it! Killing a living human being is murder -- and murder is against the the law. I dare the negative to say that a Unborn Child is not a human being! I dare the negative to say that a unborn child is not alive! and I dare the negative to say that he would not mind being an aborted child! Last night, while writing this speech, I was shocked to hear for the first time, my mother tell me that before I was born, she had two abortions. Decision Making Process for University Choice In this research student behaviour has played an important role in defining their selection about their university and needs. Before coming to Australia they have to think about the reputation of the university. Sometimes they get some information from internet, agents, and educational portals etc. The buying decision process is the decision-making process used by consumers regarding market transactions before, during, and after the purchase of a good or service. It can be seen as a particular form of a cost-benefit analysis in the presence of multiple alternatives. Need Recognition Problem Awareness: At this stage, the buyer recognizes a problem or need or responds to a marketing stimulus. It occurs when a consumer discovers an unmet need that must be fulfilled. Kotler and Keller (2011) highlight the importance of understanding consumer buying behaviour and the ways how the customers choose their products and services can be extremely important for manufacturers as well as service providers as this provides them with competitive advantage over its competitors in several aspects. For example, they may use the knowledge obtained through studying the consumer buying behaviour to set their strategies towards offering the right products and services to the right audience of customers reflecting their needs and wants effectively. Information search: The information search stage is the next step that the customers may take after they have recognized the problem or need in order to find out what they feel is the best solution. This is the buyers effort at searching the internal and external business environments to identify and observe sources of information related to the focal buying decision. The field of information has come a long way in the last forty years, and has enabled easier and faster information discovery. Consumers can rely on print, visual, and/or voice media for getting information. A customer can obtain from several sources: Personal sources: Family, Friends, Neighbours, etc. Commercial Sources: Advertising; Salespeople; Retailers; Dealers; Packing; Point-of-sale Display. Public sources: Newspapers, Radio, Television, Consumer Organisations. Experiential sources: Handling, Examining, Using the product. Evaluation of Alternatives: An important determinant of the extent of evaluation is whether the customer feels involved in the product. By involvement, we mean the degree of perceived relevance and personal importance that accompanies the choice. Where a purchase is highly involving, the customer is likely to carry out extensive evaluation. High-involvement purchases include those involving high expenditure or personal risk for example buying a house, a car or making investments. Low involvement purchases (e.g. buying a soft drink, choosing some breakfast cereals in the supermarket) have very simple evaluation processes. The answer lies in the kind of information that the marketing team needs to provide customers in different buying situations. In high-involvement decisions, the marketer needs to provide a good deal of information about the positive consequences of buying. The sales force may need to stress the important attributes of the product, the advantages compared with the competition; and maybe even encourage trial or sampling of the product in the hope of securing the sale. Purchase: This is the fourth stage, where the purchase takes place. According to Kotler, Keller, Koshy and Jha (2009), the final purchase decision can be disrupted by two factors: negative feedback from other customers and the level of motivation to comply or accept the feedback. For example, after going through the above three stages, a customer chooses to buy a Nikon DSLR camera. However, because his good friend, who is also a photographer, gives him negative feedback, he will then be bound to change his preference. Secondly, the decision may be disrupted due to unanticipated situations such as a sudden job loss or the closing of a retail store. Post-Purchase Evaluation-Cognitive Dissonance: The final stage is the post-purchase evaluation of the decision. It is common for customers to experience concerns after making a purchase decision. This arises from a concept that is known as cognitive dissonance. The customer, having bought a product, may feel that an alternative would have been preferable. In these circumstances that customer will not repurchase immediately, but is likely to switch brands next time. To manage the post-purchase stage, it is the job of the marketing team to persuade the potential customer that the product will satisfy his or her needs. Then after having made a purchase, the customer should be encouraged that he or she has made the right decision. To find information about our research, I have conducted two methods to collect information. Primary Data Secondary Data Primary Data: On 3rd February 2017, an instant survey was carried out among 15 English of Academic Purpose (EAP), three students were female and twelve students were male. The purpose of the survey was to discover the view of the students on a number of matters of personal concern. Secondary Data: To collect secondary data, I have relied on Internet, articles, and web sites. Secondary data basically supported our secondary data analysis. Since, our overall findings are totally resulted from our primary data, secondary data have hardly impact on it. The survey was conducted by means of a questionnaire given to the students to complete. There were four different types of category. The categories are- Needs, Information Search, Evaluation of alternatives/personal reasons, Post-Purchase Evaluation. Under these categories there were 39 questions. The first category covered Needs in these section students had showed their willingness to study in Australia. Maximum number of students have chosen Australia to obtain higher degree is very important, which is 13 students, and only 2 students choose it is important. The next question was gain international experience in their area of study; among 15 students 15 students said its vary important and important to get a degree from Australia which will help them to boost up their career. Around 60% students think that to gain residence ship and citizenship is very important and important. Rest of the 40% students believes that it is not important to get residence and citizenship. 15 students have come from different country to make their life style better because Australia standard of living is very high. Among these 15 students 11 students said it is very important to get better standard life style. On the other hand, maximum number of international students has come to earn sum of money. After completion of their main program, 100% students want to get better employment opportunity if they have to return their home country. Moreover, 12 out of 15 students said it is very important to develop English language skill in a foreign country. The next category is information search. In this section students have researched on universities before came to Australia from different source. Family and friends are the main source to get information about study in foreign country. Among 15 students most of the students said it is very important and important trustworthy source to get exact information about university and country selection process. Advertisements on the Internet and Education portal were the most popular information search; chosen by 9 and 8 students and they said it is important. Sometimes students relied on Agents and Education fairs to choose their universities and subjects to study in Australia. 6 and 8 out of 15 students said agents are very important and important to choose universities and subjects.   Around 50% of students think that Ex-students from IIBIT is important to get information about this university. On the other hand, 6 out of 15 students said that it is not important to get help from E x-students. On third category students have some personal reasons to choose this university. Initially, they were looking for the cost of program as well as scholarships. Approximately, 50% students said that it is very important to get scholarship and low cost for their program, and its important chosen by 50% students. This university gives opportunity to pay tuition fees in installment that is why student have chosen this university. To survive in Australia every student has to work in part-time job. Students think that if they study in IIBIT, they can pass the course easily and have part-time job opportunity. Sometimes the location of university is very important to study in Sydney. They can access to the central easily from anywhere in Sydney.   The quality of teacher and campus facility, such as library, classroom, canteen, and lab, is very important for a proper university. Maximum number of students said that these things are very important to get proper knowledge. On the forth category, EAP students have to analysis the post purchase evaluation. Cost of program is higher than expected, because when students came to IIBIT they did not get actual facilities from this university. Every semester, they have to pay huge amount of money to study in this university that is why they need flexibility to pay their tuition fees. 12 students out 15, to pay tuition fees are higher than expected and as expected. On the other hand, around 11 students said that as expected they can pass the course easily at IIBIT. After evaluation, number of 10 students said that the quality of teacher is higher than expected. Australia is one of the worlds most exciting countries. It has a good reputation in the world for its best quality education. The quality of Australia education is much better than that of other countries. Australia is one of the most popular destinations for international students among three English-speaking countries. USA and Canada is also better place to study. Students have to provide GMAT score to get admission in the best Universities is USA and Canada universities requirement is very higher than Australia. Many international students like to study in Australia for multicultural, good environment and exciting cities and so on. Australia considers its cultural diversity one of its greatest strengths. Australias standard of living is almost highest in the world. Living expenses is considerably lower in Australia. #Why students IIBIT with Fed-Uni and why not any other university? We have researched on four universities namely Federation University, Central Queensland University, Deaken University and University of Western Sydney. After analysing these universities, students have decided to study at Federation University, IIBIT Sydney. It has seven campuses. Students can chose any cosmopolitan cities. Fed-Uni offer their programs at IIBIT in Sydney and Adelaide. Federation University at IIBIT tuition fees is very low and affordable compared to other universities. The three-term semester in one-year option enables student to finish their degree earlier. IIBIT provides small class size and give individual attention to weak students. The various programs offered at IIBIT in partnership with the Federation University. One of the major decisions we have to do in life is deciding where we want to go for university. Not only will be attached to it for at least three years, but it could also change in our life altogether. While there are instances when we will need to transfer, it would be very costly to change universities, not to mention the tedious procedure that you will have to go through. We have three more important points to know in our life they are tuition fees, Price/scholarships and at last meeting requirements. Also, the English language requirement for entering university was easier at IIBIT as the entry requirement is IELTS 6.0 (overall band score) not 6.0 for each skill of Reading, Writing, Listening Speaking. This would save the students time and money to achieve a higher English level in the IELTS exam i.e. scores would have to be higher at 6.5; so many of the students undertake a direct entry package, that is, they undertake 10 weeks of student in an Academic English course. When questioned about the agent there were many students influenced by the information about scholarships offered by IIBIT through the agent. As IIBIT are offering Federation University the university price seemed very high; however, IIBIT agents offered scholarships which critically influenced the decision. Of 15 students 8 students took up the offer of scholarship. The largest scholarship was up to $9K and 10K for a Bachelor degree. Interestingly some students from the same countries did not know about the scholarship. Scholarships were also offered to Master degree students the savings were quite significant, and it was the most critical factor in deciding the choice of college and university. Also, in one case, the student accepted IIBIT then after submitting his paperwork he then was given an offer of a scholarship of significant value. Many students cited the fact that to gain a student visa that choosing a college with a university package was important, because, if the student applied only for a college they felt that they would not successfully receive a student visa; therefore, choosing a college with the university (as one campus not two different campuses and companies, there was less threat to be rejected for student visa. Another factor was the reputation of the institution and how the reputation affected gaining a student visa. One student cited the example of another college-university (Torrens University) as being new and not rating as a high level to guarantee a student visa, even it was cheaper, so the student chose a more secure choice of IIBIT. As marketing executive officers at IIBIT, we will provide many facilities to our prospective students who want to study at IIBIT. As we know that IIBIT is affiliated with Federation University, Australia. Students will get university equivalent certificate after completion of their Bachelor or Masters degree. If they study at IIBIT, they will pass the course easily. Even they can do part-time job regularly. On the other hand, studying at first level university, such as UTS, University of Sydney, Macquarie etc. They have to focus only on study to finish the degree. For example, few universities like CQ University, they do not teach students individually because most of the students come from different countries. Dreams are natural. That is why everyone in this world is prone to dream. One always makes a plan about his future. So I have a Pakistan of my dreams which would be different fro the present one. First thing it would be a Pakistan in which there will be no racism communalism and provincialism. First of all I would root out communalism whatever its shape or from may be. All such tendencies which fan the forces of separatism and disruption would be eliminated. Unity will be celebrated.Next I want Pakistan to be scientifically advanced, technologically better and agriculturally sound. I would like to build a Pakistan where science and scientific ideas and not the blind faith and fanaticism, crude emotionalism and coarse sentimentalism would rule. I would like to bring Pakistan at the apex of scientific and technological progress. The Pakistan of my dreams would be a Pakistan which is self sufficient in food All the waste and barren lands would be cultivated for achieving self sufficienc y in food grains.Agriculture would be given special attention because agriculture is the base of Pakistan economy. An agrarian revolution would be brought about by launching intensive agricultural programmes and farmers would be asked to use better seeds and fertilizers. I would like the country to be highly industrialized. This is the age of machines and industrialization of the country is a must if the country is to taken to the zenith of progress and prosperity with out industry the country cannot make progress. I would also strengthen Pakistan's defense.The country would e so strong that no enemy would ever dare to cast her covetous eyes on the sacred soil of Pakistan. Defense and security of the country would be of paramount importance. For this the country would be equipped with all the paraphernalia of modern defense. Abolition of ignorance and illiteracy would be my next endeavours, because these are a curse. People would be educated on a mass scale then the system of democr acy would be workable. The next thing which I would like to see in Pakistan of my dreams would be the abridgement of the gap between the rich and the poor.National income would be disturbed rationally among he sections of the society. Provision of food housing and clothing to one and all would be given top priority in the Pakistan of my dreams. The Invention of Fire Sprinkler Systems The world’s first sprinkler system was installed in the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in the United Kingdom in 1812. The systems consisted of a cylindrical airtight reservoir of 400 hogsheads (95,000 liters) fed by a 10in (250mm) water main which branched to all parts of the theatre. A series of smaller pipes fed from the distribution pipe were pierced with a series of 1/2 (15mm) holes which poured water in the event of a fire. Perforated Pipe Sprinkler Systems From 1852 to 1885, perforated pipe systems were used in textile mills throughout New England as a means of fire protection. However, they were not automatic systems, they did not turn on by themselves. Inventors first began experimenting with automatic sprinklers around 1860. The first automatic sprinkler system was patented by Philip W. Pratt of Abington, Massachusetts in 1872. Automatic Sprinkler Systems Henry S. Parmalee of New Haven, Connecticut, is considered the inventor of the first practical automatic sprinkler head. Parmalee improved upon the Pratt patent and created a better sprinkler system. In 1874, he installed his fire sprinkler system into the piano factory that he owned. In an automatic sprinkler system, a sprinkler head will spray water into the room if sufficient heat reaches the bulb and causes it to shatter. Sprinkler heads operate individually. Sprinklers in Commercial Buildings Until the 1940s, sprinklers were installed almost exclusively for the protection of commercial buildings, whose owners were generally able to recoup their expenses with savings in insurance costs. Over the years, fire sprinklers have become mandatory safety equipment  and are required by building codes to be placed in hospitals, schools, hotels and other public buildings. Sprinkler Systems Are Mandatory- But Not Everywhere ​In the United States, sprinklers are required in all new high-rise and underground buildings generally 75 feet above or below fire department access, where the ability of firefighters to provide adequate hose streams to fires is limited. Fire sprinklers are also  mandatory safety equipment North America in certain types of buildings, including, but not limited to newly constructed hospitals, schools, hotels and other public buildings, subject to the local building codes and enforcement. The Computer essays The article that I found to write about is on a computer that came out in the year 1982. The Computer Company is trying to sell the computer to schools for the use of the children. It describes how it is a 16-student station and its a complete classroom system for any school. It then goes on to say how it has a double density disk drives with 306,000 character storage, typewriter-style keyboard and a 12 upper and lower case display on the screen. It also talks about how it is every computer that a student needs and also that a teacher can use on there own. The way they try getting you to purchase the computer is saying how it has all of these extra features any normal classroom needs to have back in those days. They try getting you to purchase the computer by advertising that school starts in three months and that you need to buy these as computer systems as soon as possible before they sell out of them. They also add a lot of extra items if you are purchasing these for your s chool such as system that lets the teacher control and monitor everything that goes on the computers and what is being done on them. Also they give you a software program specially designed to accommodate teachers and pupils in learning more about the computer and what they are able to do. I think the main catch they are trying to get you with is how it will solve and create all your educational problems if you purchase this system. Its a very catchy advertisement I think in my opinion. They start out by letting you ponder their first statement of next year...its in 3 months. The Characters of Shirley Jackson’s The Lottery and Robert Frost's Once By The Pacific There are many devices within the craft of writing that writers use to help them convey their messages. Among these include what characters they use and how they act, what setting they put their characters in, what types of symbols are use, and many others. They can go even farther into each section with how much information they give us, or how much they make us fill in with our own interpretation or imagination. The writer's choice of characters is a main part of the story, for it is these people that "tell" the story and which we relate it to. The characters' descriptions and their actions are what we picture in our minds. Although they need the other devices to complete the story, the authors use of characters can be what makes or breaks the story. There are many different types of characters that writers can use to help them distribute their message. Robert Frost uses nature as a character in his poem "Once By The Pacific," while Shirley Jackson uses the members of a small town to tell her story in The Lottery. While each is different, they both serve their intended purpose - to tell us a story. In Robert Frost's poem, "Once By The Pacific," he uses nature as his character. He uses the sea, the beach, skies, the cliffs, and the continent and then gives them human characteristics. I feel that he uses these items because the story he is trying to tell is bigger than life, bigger than what could be described with any mere human or animal. By using the seas, the skies, the shore, the cliffs, and the continent as his characters, Robert Frost gives us an image of God's last words having immense power to control the largest forces in the world. He also gives me the image of the clouds being the angry face of God with the two lines, "The clouds were low and hairy in the skies, / Like locks blown forward in the gleam of eyes" (Frost 903 lines 5-6). Along with his choice and use of characters, Robert Frost also uses rhyme and rhythm to add to the intensity of his poem. Shirley Jackson takes a different approach with her use of characters in her short story, "The Lottery." While Frost uses nature as his characters to portray immense power, Shirley Jackson uses normal people that you could find in any small town to show us how anyone can be taken in by the power of peer pressure.

Writing and Science Fiction Writer

These two articles are similar in that they are both writing pieces by authors writing in first person about their books or writings. Amy Tan and Isaac Asimov are both writing about something specific about their writings. Amy Tan talks about how her experiences with her mother contributes to her writing and Isaac Asimov analyzes why he is a good science fiction writer and what it takes to be one. In the article Mother Tongue by Amy Tan, Amy writes about what it was like growing up with her mother's limited English. â€Å"because when I was growing up, my mother's ‘limited' English limited my perception of her. I was ashamed of her English. † (1) As the author implies in this passage and throughout the article, other people's perception of her mother affected her own perception of her. Amy had to pretend to be her mother a lot to professionals because they did not take her seriously or understand her. â€Å"When I was fifteen she used to have me call people n the phone and pretend it was her. In this guise, I was forced to ask for information or even to complain and yell at people who had been rude to her. † (2) Eventually, the author realizes that her mother and the experiences helped form her in to the writer she is today. Those Crazy Ideas by Isaac Asimov is about his fans asking him where he gets his crazy writing ideas. Isaac is a science fiction writer. He explains that to be a science fiction writer, you must possess as many â€Å"bits† (facts or information) as possible, you must be able to combine the â€Å"bits† well, and you must have intuition. (3) These two are articles are both written in first person. Although Isaac and Amy are writing about two totally different subjects, they are both relevant to being a writer. Those Crazy Ideas is more or less Isaac teaching people what it takes to be a good science fiction writer. He attempts to help people understand his thought process while writing and his take on creativity. He analyzes creativity itself. This article is has a more informational purpose than Mother Tongue; which is the first difference other than their subjects. Mother Tongue and Those Crazy Ideas are different in that they have different purposes. Mother Tongue, Amy Tan is sharing a personal story and relating it back to the way it affected her writing style and technique. His main purpose is sharing for understanding. We used a similar routine just five days ago, for a situation that was far less humorous. My mother had gone to the hospital for and appointment, to find out about a benign brain tumor a CAT scan had revealed a month ago. † (4) Isaac, in his article, is essentially answering the question â€Å"Where do you get your crazy ideas? † and is elaborating on that. He uses a lot of factual information and examples to prove his arguments about being a science fiction wr iter. â€Å"To begin with, in 1831, when Charles Darwin was twenty-two, he joined the crew of a ship called the Beagle. (5) The difference in Mother Tongue is that Amy does not use any hard facts but, instead, used her personal accounts to get her point across. These are two different styles of writing that partway has to do with the subjects their writings are about. In the end of their articles, Mother Tongue by Amy Tan and Those Crazy Ideas by Isaac Asimov, they both relate their articles back to something specific about the way that they write. In Amy Tans experience she learned to write in a way people would understand instead of trying to prove her good English by uses big intelligent words that the average person could not understand. Fortunately for reasons I won't get into today, I later decided to I should envision a reader for the stories I would write. And the reader I decided upon was my mother, because these were stories about mothers. So with this reader in mind-and in fact she did read my early drafts- I began using all the Englishes I grew up with: the English I spoke to my mother, which for lack of a better term might be described as ‘broken'; my translation of her Chinese, which could certainly be described as ‘watered down'; and what I imagined to be her translation of Chinese if she could speak in perfect English. (6) Isaac Asimov concludes his article, answering the question â€Å"Where do you get those crazy ideas? † with a blunt â€Å"I don't know. † He reiterates that we need to encourage scientific creativity and experiment more with creativity itself. â€Å"How, then, does one go about encouraging scientific creativity? For now than ever before in man’s history, we must; and the need will grow constantly in the future. † (7) â€Å"I don't know. Here, it seems to me, is where we need experimentation and perhaps a kind of creative breakthrough about creativity. Once we learn enough about the whole matter, who knows- I may even find out where I get those Crazy Ideas. † (8) In conclusion, the two articles, Mother Tongue by Amy Tan and Those Crazy Ideas by Isaac Asimov, are the same in that they are both in first person and both relate back to each author's writings somehow. They are different in that they are on different subjects; they have different purposes and different ways of getting their point across. Amy uses her personal experiences and Isaac uses hard facts. What Makes Me a Good Candidate for Medex . No doubt, it is the best way to get more experience in the sphere of medicine. To be fair, I do not think I shall necessarily face any difficulties by returning again to school because as I have already mentioned, the profession of a doctor, first of all, presupposes a constant growth and development. Therefore, we cannot afford to be at the same level for a long time. If somebody wants to be a good doctor, he/she should progress all the time. My prior experience shows that I want to be such a professional; consequently, I am ready to face all the difficulties and problems. As to my Medex classmates, I shall cooperate with them as much as possible in order we become one team. I shall also try to share my clinical and personal experience with them. Tolerance and mutual respect will be essential for successful teamwork. Besides, it has a positive impact on the development of qualities that are important for collegial collaboration. Furthermore, teamwork encourages tolerance, order, acknowledgment of others ideas, proper discussion, and overcoming selfish attitudes. I also realize that none of the team members can interfere with the cooperation of the other members because of their sympathies and antipathies. In addition, many of my friends and people I am familiar with have already participated in this program. Now, all of them are highly qualified doctors. There are many examples of personal transitions, but I prefer my own. Although I am a medical school graduate from another country, I acquired enough professional skills and qualities to become a good physician. I have already worked in my profession for seven years. And as I moved here, I decided first to try myself in physician assistance in order to learn all necessary peculiarities of work here. After finishing this practice, I am planning to get a full-time job as a physician in one of the clinics. Thus, my experience in different clinics and hospitals, in my opinion, makes me a good candidate for Medex. Besides, I am not afraid to face any great challenges by returning again to school. Furthermore, I feel quite confident in my skills and professionalism to overcome all occurring difficulties. US Immigration Act of 1917 The Immigration Act of 1917 drastically reduced US immigration by expanding the prohibitions of the Chinese exclusion laws of the late 1800s. The law created an â€Å"Asiatic barred zone† provision prohibiting immigration from British India, most of Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, and the Middle East. In addition, the law required a basic literacy test for all immigrants and barred homosexuals, â€Å"idiots,† the â€Å"insane,† alcoholics, â€Å"anarchists,† and several other categories from immigrating. Details and Effects of the Immigration Act of 1917 From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, no nation welcomed more immigrants into its borders than the United States. In 1907 alone, a record 1.3 million immigrants entered the U.S. through New York’s Ellis Island. However, the Immigration Act of 1917, a product of the pre-World War I isolationism movement, would drastically change that. Also known as the Asiatic Barred Zone Act, the Immigration Act of 1917, barred immigrants from a large part of the world loosely defined as â€Å"Any country not owned by the U.S. adjacent to the continent of Asia.† In practice, the barred zone provision excluded immigrants from Afghanistan, the Arabian Peninsula, Asiatic Russia, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, and the Polynesian Islands. However, both Japan and the Philippines were excluded from the barred zone. The law also allowed exceptions for students, certain professionals, such as teachers and doctors, and their wives and children. Other provisions of the law increase the â€Å"head tax† immigrants were required to pay on entry to $8.00 per person and eliminated a provision in an earlier law that had excused Mexican farm and railroad workers from paying the head tax. The law also barred all immigrants over the age of 16 who were illiterate or deemed to be â€Å"mentally defective† or physically handicapped. The term â€Å"mentally defective† was interpreted to effectively exclude homosexual immigrants who admitted their sexual orientation. U.S. immigration laws continued to ban homosexuals until the passage of the Immigration Act of 1990, sponsored by Democratic Senator Edward M. Kennedy.   The law defined literacy as being able to read a simple 30 to 40-word passage written in the immigrant’s native language. Persons who claimed they were entering the U.S. to avoid religious persecution in their country of origin were not required to take the literacy test. Perhaps considered most politically incorrect by today’s standards, the law include specific language barring the immigration of â€Å"idiots, imbeciles, epileptics, alcoholics, poor, criminals, beggars, any person suffering attacks of insanity, those with tuberculosis, and those who have any form of dangerous contagious disease, aliens who have a physical disability that will restrict them from earning a living in the United States..., polygamists and anarchists,† as well as â€Å"those who were against the organized government or those who advocated the unlawful destruction of property and those who advocated the unlawful assault of killing of any officer.† Effect of the Immigration Act of 1917 To say the least, the Immigration Act of 1917 had the impact desired by its supporters. According to the Migration Policy Institute, only about 110,000 new immigrants were allowed to enter the United States in 1918, compared to more than 1.2 million in 1913. Further limiting immigration, Congress passed the National Origins Act of 1924, which for the first time established an immigration-limiting quota system and required all immigrants to be screened while still in their countries of origin. The law resulted in the virtual closure of Ellis Island as an immigrant processing center. After 1924, the only immigrants still being screened at Ellis Island were those who had problems with their paperwork, war refugees, and displaced persons. Isolationism Drove the Immigration Act of 1917 As an outgrowth of the American isolationism movement that dominated the 19th century, the Immigration Restriction League was founded in Boston in 1894. Seeking mainly to slow the entry of â€Å"lower-class† immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe, the group lobbied Congress to pass legislation requiring immigrants to prove their literacy. In 1897, Congress passed an immigrant literacy bill sponsored by Massachusetts Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, but President Grover Cleveland vetoed the law.    Be early 1917, with America’s participation in World War I appearing inevitable, demands for isolationism hit an all-time high. In that growing atmosphere of xenophobia, Congress easily passed the Immigration Act of 1917 and then overrode President Woodrow Wilson’s veto of the law by a supermajority vote. Amendments Restore US Immigration The negative effects of drastically reduced immigration and the general inequity of laws like the Immigration Act of 1917 soon become apparent and Congress reacted. With World War I reducing the American workforce, Congress amended the Immigration Act of 1917 to reinstate a provision exempting Mexican farm and ranch workers from the entry tax requirement. The exemption was soon extended to Mexican mining and railroad industry workers. Shortly after the end of World War II, the Luce-Celler Act of 1946, sponsored by Republican Representative Clare Boothe Luce and Democrat Emanuel Celler eased immigration and naturalization restrictions against Asian Indian and Filipino immigrants. The law allowed the immigration of up to 100 Filipinos and 100 Indians per year and again allowed Filipino and Indian immigrants to become United States citizens. The law also allowed naturalized Indian Americans and FilipinoAmericans to own homes and farms and to petition for their family members to be allowed to immigrate to the United States. In the final year of the presidency of Harry S. Truman, Congress further amended the Immigration Act of 1917 with its passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, known as the McCarran-Walter Act. The law allowed Japanese, Korean and other Asian immigrants to seek naturalization and established an immigration system that placed emphasis on skill sets and reuniting families. Concerned by the fact that the law maintained a quota system drastically limiting immigration from Asian nations, President Wilson vetoed the McCarran-Walter Act, but Congress garnered the votes needed to override the veto.
